Approach
Holding the whole vehicle.
Most vehicle projects do not fail on the workbench. They fail because nobody was holding the whole vehicle in their head.
A suspension choice made early quietly ruins a brake decision much later. Parts arrive that were correct for a specification that has since changed. Several good suppliers each do good work that does not add up to a coherent car.
Vehicle Lab Zone exists to hold the whole vehicle.
Who leads it
Vishant Selvarajah
I am an engineer by training, with a background in mechanical and mechatronics engineering.
I run USJ 4x4 Garage, a restoration and fabrication workshop in Subang Jaya. Running it taught me something that has very little to do with welding: on almost every project that goes wrong, the metalwork was not the problem. The direction was. Nobody decided how the parts were supposed to relate to each other, so they didn’t.
Vehicle Lab Zone is where I do that part of the work — for vehicles that are not necessarily going to be built in my own workshop, and for owners who want one person carrying the technical direction from the first conversation to the finished car.
I lead every project myself, from the first conversation to final validation. That is the point of the business, and it is the constraint on it.
Principles
How I work
Decisions are made against the whole vehicle.
Gearing, brakes, weight, cooling, electrical load and how the car will actually be used are decided together, or they are decided wrong. A component that is excellent in isolation can still be the wrong answer.
Knowing what not to change is part of the work.
Every project I take on has a list of things that were deliberately left alone, and that list is published with the project. Restraint is a decision, and it is usually the one that pays for something more important.
Every decision costs something.
There is no specification without a trade-off. I will tell you what each decision costs before it is made, not after.
Clarity before commitment.
No one should commit money, a vehicle, or two years of their life to a direction that has not been written down and agreed. The early stages exist to produce that document.
The relationship
Vehicle Lab Zone and USJ 4x4
These are two businesses. I run both, and they do different things.
USJ 4x4 Garage is a workshop. It restores, re-engineers and fabricates, in-house, in Subang Jaya. It has its own clients, its own builds and its own standards, and it is the principal specialist build partner for Vehicle Lab Zone projects when the work suits its capability.
Vehicle Lab Zone is not a workshop. It does not hold a bench, it does not perform physical work, and it is not tied to one workshop’s capacity or commercial interest. It directs projects. When a project needs paint, trim, machining, engine building, electronics or compliance work, those specialists are selected, briefed and overseen by Vehicle Lab Zone — and they are quoted by themselves.
The practical result: you get one person accountable for whether the finished vehicle makes sense, and separate, honest quotations for the work that produces it.

Scope
What this is not
Vehicle Lab Zone is not a workshop, a dealer, a tuning shop or a detailing business. It does not sell cars, and it does not sell parts as a margin business.
It sells direction: the brief, the specification, the decisions, the sourcing strategy and the oversight that make a project coherent.
