Process

Clarity before commitment.

Direction is bought in stages. Each stage produces a document or a decision you keep, and each stage ends at a point where you can stop.

Nothing here asks you to commit to a full project on the strength of a conversation.

Stage 01

Enquiry and initial review

You describe the vehicle, the intention and the constraints. I assess whether this is a project I can genuinely direct, and whether the timing and budget make sense. If it is not right, I will say so and, where I can, point you somewhere better.

Output
A straight answer.
Cost
No charge.
Stage 02

Paid technical consultation

The first real technical conversation, with the vehicle if it is available and remotely where it is not. Condition, intention, feasibility, and the shape of the project. This is work, not a sales meeting, and you keep what comes out of it whether or not the project goes further.

Output
A written summary of position and recommended direction.
Cost
From RM160, depending on scope and the time required. This is a paid consultation. There is no free quotation stage.
Stage 03

Brief and constraints

What the vehicle is for, what it must not become, what cannot change, and what “finished” means. Agreed in writing before anything is specified.

Output
Project brief.
Stage 04

Specification and direction

Every system decided against every other system, with reasoning, dependencies, trade-offs and a retained list.

Output
Whole-vehicle specification.
Stage 05

Parts curation and sourcing strategy

Components chosen against the specification, with a sourcing route and lead times for each.

Output
Parts schedule and sourcing plan.
Stage 06

Build planning and partner selection

The sequence, the stages, the budget staging, and who does what. Physical work is scoped and quoted by the partner performing it.

Output
Staged build plan and partner allocation.
Stage 07

Oversight during execution

Technical direction while the work happens: reviewing against specification, resolving questions between suppliers, and deciding what to do when the vehicle reveals something nobody planned for.

Output
Decisions, recorded as the project runs.
Stage 08

Validation and handover

Checking that the finished vehicle does what the brief said it would, and recording what was actually built.

Output
Validation record and final project documentation.

What is quoted by whom

Vehicle Lab Zone quotes direction. USJ 4x4 and other specialists quote their own work, directly to you. Parts are charged at a fixed sourcing rate rather than as a margin on the part — the reasoning is on the capabilities page.

The consultation at stage 02 is paid, from RM160. Everything after it is quoted against an agreed scope. At no point does a Vehicle Lab Zone fee include the cost of physical work.

What can change, and when

Every specification is written on incomplete information, because some of what determines a decision is not knowable at the point the decision has to be planned. When new information arrives — from disassembly, from a supplier, from a part that turns out to be unobtainable — the affected decisions are re-taken and the dependent ones are re-checked.

That is a direction task, and it is why oversight is a stage rather than an afterthought. You are told at the point it happens, with the options and what each one costs, and the specification is revised in writing rather than absorbed quietly.
